A Little Gary Vee, Tom Ferry and Darryl Davis to Speed-Up My Motivation








There's a trend going on where we have an overwhelmingly large number of qualified buyers in the market right now, and inventory levels in New York are so low right now that there's almost nothing to show them. This is called a seller's market because right now sellers can ask for almost any price for their home (within reason since the property has to appraise for mortgage purposes). Believe me, one of the most difficult scenarios to deal with is having a buyer that qualifies to purchase a 2 family home in Queens NY and not have a single home to show him. This frustration leads to many agents entering a very negative mindset.

Negativity in this industry is nothing new in our industry. We deal with it when we are in a buyer's market as well. This is the type of switch in the market where we have more inventory than there are buyers, and sellers complain that their properties aren't selling quickly or for the price they expect. Buyers have the power in this scenario because they have plenty of homes to choose from. They have the luxury of being a lot pickier when deciding on a home and can often take a couple of weeks to think about their decision. Imagine having sellers call you constantly because you are not bringing them the right offer on their house.

What does that do? It frustrates Realtors and puts them in such a negative mindset that makes this industry very difficult to deal with. Frustration & negativity are contributing factors to the huge number of Realtors who fail in this business. According to NAR 87% of agents fail within the first 5 years in the business. I find it even scarier that 75% of Realtors fail within their first year in the business. These are scary numbers because it tells us Realtors that the odds of making it are stacked against us. Only 13% of Realtors can claim victory after 5 years in the business. Coming into this business without a predefined why, or with a weak mindset that will allow one to become negative will definitely push one towards the side of the quitters rather than the winners.

So how do we stay motivated and positive when the odds are so overwhelmingly stacked against us? Well, you partner up with amazing motivators who can keep you on track. I always suggest that you choose people that motivate you. I mean, there are public speakers, trainers, authors, motivators that some people swear by, but whom I cannot connect with for more than 2 minutes without wanting to jump out of 100 story window. Then there are people I find absolutely motivational and inspirational but who others can't connect with. So look for people who you can connect with.

Here are just THREE people who truly motivate me:

1. Gary Vaynerchuk: I watch, listen and take in some Gay Vee videos, read his books, listen to podcasts, etc. because the dude is on point. We are entrepreneurs as Realtors. We are in control of our own business. If we produce, we get paid. If we don't, we fail. No one gives us a free ticket when we perform poorly. As an entrepreneur, why not listen to someone that absolutely has a strong hold on how to be a successful entrepreneur. 2. Tom Ferry: This is the man that will help you think outside the box and build a business that will be truly fulfilling. I absolutely believe that Tom wants nothing more than to see every Realtor succeed. He is by far the best real estate trainer in the world and will help any Realtor find ways to take their career from the starting line the highest levels of success. What's great about Tom is that he is so energetic when presenting us with information that is crucial to our success. 3. Darryl Davis: If you want to get into a positive mindset, where you will be in tune with the feelings of people around you and the feelings inside of you, then you need to follow Darryl Davis.
