New York City is MY Hometown

Hi, my name is George L. Rosario and I am from New York. New York City is MY Hometown.

Yes, New York City is my hometown, just like Edge Hill Georgia and Buford Wyoming are hometown to some people. The difference? Edge Hill Georgia has a population of 24, and Buford Wyoming is hometown to a whopping 1 person, while New York City is hometown to 8,538,000 people and growing! I've never been to Buford Wyoming and had to Google it to know what it's all about. I've been to Edge Hill Georgia and it's pretty. Do you really have to Google NYC to tell me something about it?

I laugh every time someone has something negative to say about my city. I love NYC with our 5 boroughs, our NUMEROUS professional sports teams & professional sports events, our museums, our Statue of Liberty, our skyscrapers (Empire State Building, World Trade Center, Chrysler Building, etc), our awesome bridges & tunnels, our rooftop bars and lounges, our history, our Central Park, Prospect Park, and many other parks, our many zoos and aquariums, our funny named streets, our diverse neighborhoods, our nightlife, our hustle, our culture, our events, our colleges & universities, our economy, our Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, our public transportation system, our many world renowned parades, our street culture, our attractions, and of course, our amazingly diverse and interesting people who proved on 9/11/2001 that although we are not perfect and are vulnerable, we are determined to get back up and come back stronger.

My friends, trust me when I tell you that I love to travel around the United States. I love exploring new neighborhoods, new towns, new cities, new sites, hidden secrets, strange little places, new experiences! The United States of America has more to offer those who want to take an extended road trip than just about any other place in the world. But, the best part about that is the moment I arrive back at my hometown of NYC and catch a glimpse of our city skyline!

You have no idea how often a New Yorker has to sit through a scene like the one you'll see below and bite his tongue. It seems like there's always someone in every crowd outside of NY who has some "smart" comment to say about how bad NYC is. I often laugh inside thinking, "you just couldn't make it in my hometown and that's why you make fun of it." These people are like the guy that asks a girl out and when she says no, he decides to trash talk her calling her ugly and stupid. It is immature to say the least.

So the next time you want to trash talk New York, remember it's such a great city that you had to say the name TWICE when describing her (New York, New York). Remember that countless movies, plays, shows, memoirs, books, articles, TV shows, performances, songs, poems, stories, specials, skits, documentaries, text books, college courses, travel sites, websites, pamphlets, etc. have been created to honor her, and that many of those have come from people outside of the United States. Remember that New York City is so special that she is the place where the world's leaders come to speak, where the world's dreamers come to dream, where the world's economy looks at for direction, where the poor & the rich come for opportunities, and where the entire world learned that the United States of America does not bow down to bullies who attack us! Remember that this is the city that has been welcoming visitors from around the world for as long as it has existed, and that many of those visitors decide to stay and call this city their new found home town. Remember that this is the ONLY New York City there ever was and ever will be. Remember that this is MY NEW YORK CITY!!!

By the way... this video is hilarious!

What Is Success?

Success

The meaning of success is subjective. That which makes one person feel successful may or may not make someone else feel successful. What makes me successful comes directly from my belief system, my dreams and goals. What makes you successful comes from the fulfillment of goals you set for yourself. Success is not an outward accomplishment, but rather an inner one.

On the surface, the millionaire who lives in a mansion and owns every toy imaginable is much more successful than the guy who lives in a 1 bedroom coop and gets from point A to point B on a bicycle. But when we lift the covers of that public image, the guy that lives in the coop may have everything he needs in order to be happy, while the millionaire may lack the one ingredient that may make him feel fulfilled and therefore tries to compensate for that missing ingredient with material things. Success is subjective.

Why am I writing about this on my real estate blog? Well, because real estate is one of those factors that is used by many as a measure of their success. People with large real estate portfolios are often viewed by society as huge success stories. People who rent a bargain apartment are often viewed by society as mediocre. But it has been my experience that real estate, much like success, is subjective. I’ve met people who have lived in small, rented studios apartments for years and they are completely satisfied with their life. I’ve also met people who own mansions and lots of real estate investments and they live a miserable life.

Today I want to talk about why I, as a successful Realtor will never judge the way anyone chooses to live if they are living in the residence of their choice. When I went into real estate, I did because I wanted to be a very successful Realtor. Interesting enough, as time went by and I became a more proficient professional, my idea of success in real estate changed. If you would have asked me what a successful Realtor is when I first started in the business, I would have told you it is the Realtor who makes the most money and sells the biggest properties in the industry. I would have told you that the most successful agent in my eyes is the one that drives a luxury car, lives in a luxury home, lives a luxury lifestyle and has a bank account with many a cash pile that has many zeros following the first number. Today, my view of a successful agent is much different.

I learned as a Realtor that my success (remember success is subjective) had a lot more to do with how I helped a client than how much money I made off the deal. My success has a lot more to do with the service I provide than with the money my client pays me. See, I saw very early in my career that those who chased business on the basis of how much commission they could make off of one deal would fail in the business. Meanwhile those professionals who focused on providing the highest level of service regardless of the amount of commission they would be earning had a much more successful career.

This matters because when you take care of your clients, and strive to provide the highest level of service possible, you inevitably base your success on helping others meet their idea of success. So whether my clients are hoping to rent a small economy apartment, or my clients want to sell or buy a multi-million dollar investment property, my success relies on my ability to meet their needs.

So when I entered this business, I had dreams of being a billionaire salesperson in a year (not quite but you get what I mean). Today, more than a decade later, I am focused on creating life changing relationships with my clients, helping them meet their needs with the least amount of stress, and in turn, establishing a solid, reputable, respectable and profitable real estate practice. That is my definition of success in my business, and it is what has made my business better for my clients, my team members, the industry and me.

What is your idea of success?

How Do I Start? My Journey Into The World of Ownership

How do I start?

Yes, that was my first question when I went into the world of business. I never looked at myself as a real estate salesperson. I saw myself as a business owner. I was working on commission. That means that I would only eat if I produced.

As a young father, I knew that I didn't have the option to fail. I knew that I had to be a success. It wasn't because I wanted a nice car, or money to hang out with my friends. I needed to do things right so that my son would not feel the pinch of his father's failure, or worse, so that my son would not be disappointed in me.

Now I know what you may be thinking. Is this going to be another story about how I made it despite all the odds? No! This is a post about what I did to get started. This is a post about what I wanted to accomplish and the steps I took in the very beginning to set off on my journey. This is a post about getting started.

First let's look at the vehicle I chose. Like anything else, we must choose our vehicle wisely. While most vehicles are useful forms of transportation from point A to point B, chances are that the wrong vehicle will stop you from getting to where you want to go rather than help you get there. What do I mean? Well, a luxury car is a great vehicle, but if you want to travel the Greek islands, you are not going to jump into a Mercedes S550 and travel through the Mediterranean Sea in one. The same is true in the other direction. The Abeking and Rasmussen EXCELLENCE V is an excellent luxury yacht but I would be a fool to try to get across the United States, from New York City to California via land on one.

I knew I chose the right vehicle once I got into the real estate world. I had a real interest in this. I wanted to learn more and more each day and wanted to grow a business that my family could be proud of. But where would I start? That was the big question.

So I decided to seek field knowledge. I sought out industry experts and studied them to see what it was they were doing to be so successful. I started doing research. But most importantly, I found a mentor and checked my pride at the door. I humbled myself and admitted that I was not competent in the field yet. I admitted that I need to be like a sponge and absorb as much knowledge as possible. I found a mentor I resonated with and went into it with faith.

So where do we get started? Whether it is real estate, the arts, investing, retail, the culinary arts, or anything else, if you are going to go into business for yourself, you must find successful people, surround yourself with them, follow their footprints and learn as much as you can so that you don't make the mistakes the quitters made. Find winners and learn from them.

How do I start? I start by starting. I take the first step and go for it. I make a real commitment to my success. I decide that no matter what, I am going to work harder for this than I've worked for anything else, and I push through all the negativity to find positive role models to help me along the way. I start by taking the first step and only look back to celebrate how far I've come.

Go out there, get started and build your own future. Take control of your destiny. Be the winner you were created to be. I believe I was created to be a winner. Do you? I believe I was created to revolutionize the real estate industry. You don't have to believe this exact same thing, but you must believe that you were created to be great!

If you would like a career in real estate, please feel free to reach out to me or my partners to see if we are a good fit for each other. Let us help you build a greater and more successful you.

Daily Reflection: How To Keep That New Year's Enthusiasm

Keep your enthusiasm level up! Keep your energy level up! Keep your optimism going strong! That's advice that numerous life coaches, business coaches, personal trainers, team developers and entrepreneurs have recommended this to everyone who might listen. It's the topic of speeches, classes, seminars, books, magazine articles, debates, training sessions, etc. Today I want to share something I figured out a couple of years ago which was reinforced again last night.

New Year's Eve is a special day in which many talk about all the awesome goals they've set for the New Year. The amazing thing is that many will set goals that completely eclipse anything they've ever accomplished and they truly believe they will accomplish these goals. Imagine if they kept this level of belief throughout the entire year. How could they possibly fail?

The problem is that this journey called life is not traveled on a leveled road. This road has hills, turns, roadblocks, potholes, bridges, tunnels, accidents, traffic jams, detours, and you often share it with really bad drivers. That poses a serious problem for anyone who wants to stay on track to accomplish a goal but who is easily affected by the unexpected twists and turns of life.

So how can we possibly stay motivated? How do we maintain the momentum necessary so that our New Year's Resolution doesn't fall apart in a couple of months, weeks, days or even hours? I've learned that if I continue feeding my brain with positive, motivational, inspirational material that will help fuel my journey, I will find it easier to stay on track. If I consume content that keeps me in the right mindset, I can deal with any of the obstacles I am sure to encounter along the way. I constantly read good, positive, motivational books. I constantly listen to positive, motivational podcasts. I constantly watch positive, motivational videos. I often go to positive, motivational seminars. I strongly believe in having a positive, motivational coach. I actively seek out mentors whom I can study and learn from. I surround myself with positive, motivational people. I strive to live a positive, motivated life. I document all my accomplishments and all the lessons I learn along the way. THAT is how I deal with obstacles and stay motivated.

Many will say that this doesn't work for everyone. Many will say that they've tried and that this did not work. To those I say that it they need to add the final ingredient in this formula for success. They need to turn off the TV, stop wasting their time reading material that does not benefit their journey, they must avoid getting involved in anything negative, and they must purge their circle of friends of any negative people. You see, it is very easy to slip off the road and crash when you get blindsided by someone who irresponsibly detours you from your positive journey. It is very easy to fail and keep on failing when you surround yourself with people who have never accomplished anything for themselves and have to put you down to make themselves feel better about their situation. So please, do yourself a favor, remove all negativity from your life. You do not need it!
